Personal narrative
Below is an example of a students personal narrative. Click on the link to read what he has done in terms of his structure. Pay close attention to the use of paragraphs and transitional words that were used.

Showing the reader what is happening in the personal narrative creates more engagement for the audience. Below is an example of a personal narrative that has very descriptive language in it. It is highlighted in yellow which "shows" the reader instead of just telling. example: "The boy took off his hat" -TELLING
"The boy took of his red and brown wrinkled up hat" -SHOWING
"The boy took of his red and brown wrinkled up hat" -SHOWING
