How did the flood in Bangkok occur?

The flood occurs by lots of rainfall in August to October and the dams were full so they couldnt hold anymore water so some of the six dams broke or it spilled some of the water out and the water spread through Thailand. The water comes from the North and was spreading to the South so they could go into the Gulf of Thailand.

There are many reasons for the flood occurring in Bangkok and other central parts of Thailand. Each person thinks differently about this, but this is what I think:

In the past the forest is like a natural dam but now technolgy came in and we have a dam. But the dam humans make didn't make a success in this kind of emergency and the dam must release more than usual which make this flood.

The flood occurs by the dam is full and they need to let the water out to the sea. There were also a lot of rain. The rainfall very close together so the dam is full. These two things is the thing that I know.

I think the flood occured because the rainfall (heavy rain) from August to October 2011, it rained alot that the dams cannot hold more water so it spread the water down to the south and into the gulf of Thailand. The water is spreading through Thailand. The water is from the north.

I think that the floods occured because of the heavy rainfall in the north of Thailand during the monsoon season. As per experts, the cause of the heavy rainfall is the 4 tropical storms that hit Thailand. The noticeable rainfall started from May, and major rainfall caused by the tropical storm by the beginning of October, most dams were already near- or over-capacity and being forced to increase their rates of discharge, potentially worsening downstream flooding. The dams could not hold water so they had to release it and that is one of the reasons of flooding. The huge amount o water moved to the plains in the central Thailand. The flooding in many provinces began on 31st july. 16 provinces were flooded straight away. The heavy rain continued in the late august. The water level increased in some provinces. Flooding in Ayutthaya worsened as flood water entered the city proper, inundating the Ayutthaya Historical Park and forcing evacuations. As floodwaters drained southwards from Ayutthaya, Bangkok was becoming seriously threatened by mid-October. In Pathum Thani Province bordering Bangkok to the north, continuous efforts to reinforce and repair sandbag flood walls were undertaken to prevent the Chao Phraya and Rangsit canals from owerflowing. The 24/7 Emergency Operation Center for Flood, Storm and Landslide was set up on 20 August under the Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Department of the Ministry of country’s domestic affairs warning and relief efforts. The government also allocated extra flood-relief budgets to the affected provinces. China,Japan, the Philippines’, the U.S.A, and New Zealand, have pledged support and assistance for relief operations.the water has to go into the ocean. Good for Thailand!

I think the flood actually got on the land is from the heavy rainfalls. The dam was already filled with lots of water but they can't let it go because they cannot let the main city bangkok get flooded so they must contain more water at the dam. The water are coming north wich is at the high areas so the waters are going to go to the gulf of thailand wich is at the south because it is in the low areas. The dam that broked at Ayuthaya had spread the water down andthe water is spreading fast and nearly the whole Ayuthaya was buried under water. Some water came from the pipes underground and it's fastest way for your house to be flooded. Wrote alot with love, from Harry

In class you said that in august the dams were full so when more rain falls the dams overflow. They have no choice but to let a bit of water out. Eventually the dams overflowed. Thats were the flood began from the north all the way down to the south of thailand.

The flood occurred because of humans thought that we could handle the water without the trees and forests so we decided to build the dam. going back to the year 1998 there are alot of trees and forests so the trees and forests absorbs the water and slows down and make the water lesser. But with the dam there will be a chance of destruction that the dam will brake and the water will go in a big deadly wave. and also the flood occurred because of the heavy rainfall. often it will get stucked in the basil. the basil formed because when we build alot of buildings the ground may have pushed in to the ground and it makes the place gone lower than normal. when the dam brakes in thailand it goes from north to south. often some of our dams has been filled over capacity so it will brake.

I think there many reason that why flood occur. First of all I think it happen by many a lot of rainfalls had happen between August and October and that make some dam have overload. The dam did not let it flow down the river. Also they destroy the forest (natural dam) to build many building. So it spread from the north to the south of Thailand.

I think that the floods in Bangkok appeared because there was a lot of rainfall ever since September (special thanks to the first "Roo su Flood" video), high tides from the sea and also some "invading" floodwaters on the loose from the north of thailand. The rainfall started no later than August and ended in about November. During those 3-4 months of chaos (and rainfall of course), the dams of Thailand have been trying to hold the floodwaters but extra rainfall added some uninvited rainwater to the dams and made the water level unable to hold so the dams had to realese the water and that is a reason why there has been flooding. Another reason of why there is flooding in Bangkok is because some of the water came gushing out from underground pipes(and that is not an experience I'd reccomend to have)bringing the smelly things in the sewer, too. Also, there has been a lot of global warming (no thanks to harmful gas) lately so I think that is another reason that there is flooding in Bangkok.Global warming happens because people use too much harmful gas so the ozone layer (it's a kind of invisible shield that protects the earth from too much sunlight) is damaged. Now that the ozone layer is damaged, there is a lot of global warming so natural disasters usually happen here and there. These are my reasons of why there is flooding in Bangkok, even though there may be other reasons that I don't know about. Anyway, even though my reasons may not be the same as other people, I'm sure that there are more than two to three people that have the same reasons like me, just having the words and sentences mixed up. So now that you have known my reasons, this is Tony signing off... for now. Goodbye!

There are many reasons when the flood occurs. One of them is that I think it's because humans turn the forests and trees that used to be a natural dam to block the water into buildings, factories, and roads. Thailand has some places that are shaped as a slope. So, when the water comes down from the slope, there were no trees to make the water slow down.

I think the rainfall occurs too much is because of monsoon season. It rained very hard from August fill the dams, then water comes out.

I think the thing that cause the flood in bangkok is that the dam is filled up since august and the rain keep on falling like theres no tomorow so then some dams broke and bangkok got flooded and the water from Ayutthaya crash in to bangkok and thats how bangkok got flooded.

the floods happend by the dam is full and the hard rain this year. Some dam do not open and let go the water so the side of the is flooded. Some dam get destroyed by the water. Humans also cut down trees that make the water moves slower to faster. Human also put sandbags to block the water and the water gets higher in different places in thailand.

I think that the flood in thailand is from the heavy rainfalls. When there is too much water in the dam, then the dam breaks. All the water in the dam flows out into the town.
